About

Dr. Paul S. Wood is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Dental Anesthesiologist, and a retired Captain (O-6) of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. Raised in rural Vernon County in west central Missouri, he graduated from Nevada High School in 1978 and went on to spend 33 years in uniform, serving as an enlisted soldier, Field Artillery Officer, Military Intelligence Officer, and ultimately National Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Wood earned two bachelor’s degrees from Missouri Southern State University, one in Economics and Finance and one in Biology, before graduating from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1991. During dental school he served as Commander of Service Battery, 1/129 Field Artillery, Missouri Army National Guard. After two years on active duty with the U.S. Public Health Service as a staff dental officer at W.W. Hastings in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, he was selected for long-term training and completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Medical Center in 1997. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesia.

As a Regional and later National Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Wood served in many regions of the country, providing surgical care at Indian Health Service facilities including Lawton Indian Hospital, Anadarko Indian Health Center, Claremore Indian Hospital, El Reno Indian Health Center, W.W. Hastings Indian Hospital, and Clinton Indian Hospital. He was repeatedly assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard, including its training site clinic at Cape May, New Jersey, and served as faculty for the general practice residency programs at W.W. Hastings Hospital and the Navajo Area Medical Center in Gallup, New Mexico. He retired from active duty in February 2010.

Since retiring, Dr. Wood has practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery in the private sector, founding Nevada Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Nevada, Missouri, and Lawton Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Lawton, Oklahoma, and he now practices at Oklahoma Dental Implants & Oral Surgery in Lawton. He served as the 117th President of the Oklahoma Dental Association (2023–2024), and is President of the Comanche County Dental Society, and a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Texas 13th District Dental Society, and the Stephens County Dental Society. He volunteers monthly with Hearts that Care, a nonprofit providing free dental care to those in need, has taught Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office to local dentists, and has served as an Associate Professor with the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry while volunteering at Good Shepherd Ministries in Oklahoma City.

Away from practice, Dr. Wood enjoys time with his wife, Heidi, and their children and grandchildren.
